Community & Friendship Dinners

RAMADAN

For Muslims, Ramadan is a sacred month of fasting, reflection, and prayer. It is commemorated as the month in which Prophet Muhammad received the first revelations of the Quran, the Muslim sacred book. One of Islam’s five guiding principles is the practise of fasting. Muslims fast from daybreak to dusk every day during Ramadan.

RAMADAN DINNERS

The Intercultural Dialogue Institute Ottawa organizes a series of community Iftar (fast-breaking) dinners during the month of Ramadan. Iftar dinners bring together people from different religious and ethnic backgrounds and are used to promote conversation and intercultural understanding. They include a wide range of subjects pertaining to normative beliefs and principles found in numerous religious and cultural traditions.
